Every year (for the past ten years), the English Graduate Students’ Society (EGSS) at Université de Montréal hosts a conference open to any graduate students who would like to present on a given topic. This year’s official topic is “The Economies of Future Past: Redefining the Spaces of (Post)Memory,” and the presentations will take place on March 13th and 14th.
Yesterday, I received a tentative schedule for the conference, and it looks like I’ll be presenting on March 14th around 1:00 pm. My presentation will discuss issues of trauma, forgiveness, and form in Sam Kieth’s comic series The Maxx. This will be the first time that I have written and presented on the comic book form, so I’m both excited and nervous at the same time. Above all, however, I’m looking forward to the opportunity, and I’m pleasantly surprised by the diversity of subject matter being brought to this conference.
